Another Digital Conference, Another Raging Success!

As so many of you will also have experienced, last Friday was the highly popular brightonSEO event as put on by clockworkTalent’s much loved business partner Kelvin Newman (and his fantastic team). Incredibly, brightonSEO just keeps getting bigger and  better. With all the venues at Brighton Dome full to capacity, there was little room to turn without coming face to face or elbow to elbow with a fellow Digital Marketer.

The guest speakers gave thought-provoking insights into the industry and many of us came away with new ideas and visions of where we can take our businesses and careers.

From my point of view, it was a brilliant opportunity to get to see the faces of many of our agencies; understand better the directions they are taking their businesses and discuss the skill shortages they are experiencing. From the big established agencies to the smaller, startups with big plans. I also met up with so many of you who are actively seeking new challenges in your career. It’s great to be included in the recruitment activities of so many of you and even funnier to hear that many of you had listened to my first ever podcast interview by Kelvin the week previous. Stay tuned to the podcast as there may well be more recruitment tips for our industry in the future.

It is also interesting for me to be in the same room as my two brothers. Jason, who runs the digital marketing agency SiteVisibility and Alex the Digital Strategy Director of AKA – the global marketing agency for Live Entertainment clients (both of whom are recruiting through clockworkTalent!). As someone put it, our family “get togethers” must be really “interesting”!!


Later in the day, the after party began and I underwent a whirlwind change into cowboy hat, boots, checkered shirt and pigtails to run our Bucking Bronco competition. There had been some doubt whether our sophisticated lot would enjoy such a wild, competitive challenge, but I am pleased to say I had every confidence and there was a steady stream of competitors, some even saying they didn’t even want to enter for a prize but just wanted to ride!!

We had riders one after the other (some even taking several attempts) trying to beat our competition winner’s 78 second ride-time. Seb Tucknott of brightSite had 3 attempts but ultimately had to settle for a 76 second achievement – not bad for second place. However I think the resulting callouses and blisters proved he had tried hard! The shortest ride of the night was a mere 6 seconds, it was quickly wiped off the board to avoid humiliation – but you know who you are and well done for giving it a go.

So the biggest congratulations goes to Aisha Kellaway  – (yes, a girl! and also known to many of us as Skippy”)… for her mammoth win of 78 seconds. Her prize of a Hovercraft experience is in the post, and I am sure she will take boyfriend, Marcus, with her “Well done, Skippy”!! Thank you once again to Kelvin and his team, for a great event…. and lovely to meet all you brightonSEO’ers… Until the next one!
