Well that was brightonSEO – it came and went in a flash… But what fun it was!
Our second time exhibiting at brightonSEO is all over and we were all sporting sore & fuzzy heads on Saturday to prove it! Brett and I had an amazing time representing clockworkTalent in the pink and black, meeting lots of really interesting new people, and finally getting a chance to put smiley faces to the names of attendees who we had been talking with for months but had never actually met in person!
Speaker and Sponsor Dinner
For me the conference started Thursday night at the speakers and sponsors dinner, hosted at the Courtyard. Good food and wine set us up for a couple of hours of eating, mingling and chatting with other sponsors and most of the speakers. I had the chance to have a good ol’ chat with Lisa Myers from Verve Search, Andie Carroll from IndusNet, Nichola Stott from theMediaFlow and Tara West from Koozai – all very interesting and lovely women who were equally looking forward to the conference Friday!
An early start Friday saw both Brett and I donning the colours of the brand (Digital Pink!) and setting up our stand ready to meet the masses when the doors opened! And meet them we did… We were overwhelmed with the interest we received in our immediate hire jobs and the amount of people wanting to keep in touch for future opportunities or help with future hires. Always looking to build our network, it’s needless to say that we were pretty chuffed with the results!
brightonSEO created a new addition to the conference format this year, adding speed mentoring as a pre-booked option in the last session of the day, at the same time as the lightning talks were on in the Concert Hall. I was lucky enough to be asked to participate as one of the mentors, helping people in one-to-one sessions on the topic of “Making your First Hire” and “Building your Team”. It was a fantastic way of meeting people one on one who were after some speedy, practical advice and contacts for the future. The other topics being covered were “Increasing your profile in the industry”, with Lisa Myers; “Progressing your Career in Search”, with Ned Poulter; “Management and Leadership”, with Jose Truchado; “Getting your first job in the Industry”, with Emma Rosenberg and “Starting out on your own”, with Nichola Stott. All of the mentors and the speed mentoring itself received fantastic feedback from those who booked sessions and we’d definitely be up for participating again next time!
Anyone who knows brightonSEO knows that the best part of the day is, arguably, the notorious After Parties. The drink tokens are being thrown at the bar, the roller racing is in full swing and the games rooms are packed with people playing pin-ball, table football, pool and old-school arcade games! Last conference we hosted a bucking bull competition during the after-party, but this time we thought we’d lower the competitiveness and just go for good old fashioned fun with Brett hosting Karaoke! What can we say, when SEO’ers have a few beers, they bust out the moves and the song choices just kept coming! This is perhaps our favourite video evidence of this part of the night 😉
The night carried on into the early hours for some, and we had an incredible time. Now we’re having to plan ahead for the fun times to come at MeasureFest next month followed by the Content Marketing Show. Bring it on!
