‘Unusual’, I hear you say; a boss to show their own team who to speak to about getting a new job! Indeed this was unusual circumstances. This boss had spent time hiring herself a great team but an unfortunate change in business strategy meant the whole team were in for redundancy just before Christmas.

This Head of Digital Marketing was keen to see her team rapidly get the right help in securing new jobs – hence pointing them in the direction of clockworkTalent as the Digital Recruiters to speak with!

Of course I welcomed this heads-up and, as always, was pleased to be presented with a likable, articulate and clearly intelligent digital marketer (after all the boss had hired the team to keep for herself!). This individual was still in the early phase of her career, and demonstrated an abundance of potential and keenness to learn and grow in responsibility, skill and experience.

During our initial discussions, we take the time to get to know the people we are finding new jobs for so we can play to their strengths, draw on their experience and gauge which employer, team and ultimately job might “fit” each individual’s skill set and ambitions best. We often say this but it’s true – we aim for utopia and work backwards.

On this occasion, we had already started on the shortlist of interviews for a global brand in London. We were expanding the team with a “junior” digital marketer who already had the fundamentals in place and showed great aptitude for rapid career progression. This could have been written for our candidate, Skye Smith!

Once we had agreement from the hiring manager, we set about coordinating diaries and walking both parties through the series of interviews as well as delivering against a task (there is a lot of “stuff” which happens in the background to ensure a successful hire including closely managing both candidate and employer expectations and negotiations). Plus we only had a couple weeks before Christmas!

It was after 3 meetings which included presenting the task, we were pleased to share the news of the job offer to Skye. We were all thrilled when she enthusiastically accepted the job with a start date as soon as we returned from the festive break!

Such great news just before Christmas that everyone could go away on their holidays confident that come the New Year everything and everyone would fall into place.
